May 1, 2017 – Ephesians 5:3-4

Reading: Ephesians 5:3-4

Questions for observation and application:

What six sins listed here are “improper” and “out of place”?

What action/attitude is given as a contrast?

What is interesting in these two verses isn’t just the list of sins, but the reason Paul gives for the prohibition. Sexual immorality, impurity, greed, and obscenity not just wrong, but are “out of place” and “improper” for the holy people of God. To engage in these behaviors is incongruous – it just doesn’t fit – with identity which God has given to his people.

And yet, these things are hallmarks of our entertainment culture. Consider what you watch and listen to and how. How does this affect your own thought and speech?  How might you be able to cultivate patterns of thankfulness instead?
