April 20, 2017 – Ephesians 4:28

Reading: Ephesians 4:28

Questions for observation and application:

What should we stop doing?

What should we be doing instead? Why?

Following the pattern of the previous verses we are called to “put off” one behavior and “put on another.” Here the call is to replace theft (harmful, selfish) with industrious work that helps others. The work is service by itself (“something useful”) and because it gives further opportunity to give generously to those in need.

This is a good reminder that our work has purpose beyond being a source of income (though that’s a good purpose, too). Most jobs are also useful to the greater society, and a portion of the income can be shared with the needy.

What purpose do you see in your work?

How can these verse help provide you with daily motivation?
